Idyllic new wedding venue within Alnwick Castle Estate

Friars Well, an exquisite, private country house located in idyllic Hulne Park near Alnwick, Northumberland, has opened its doors for the first time as a very special, new wedding venue.

All interested parties are invited to a free Open Afternoon at Friars Well between 12 – 3 on Sunday 21 May where you can view this fabulous house and garden, meet a range of exclusive wedding advisers, see around Hulne Abbey and enjoy a glass of fizz. Overlooking beautiful Northumbrian countryside and farmland, Friars Well is now licensed for marriages and has five large reception rooms, nine bedrooms including a magnificent master suite, an indoor heated swimming pool and variety of lawns and large terraces overlooking a lake. The stone-built former farmhouse stands in beautifully maintained gardens and enjoys breathtaking views across lovely Hulne Park, the former deer park of the Duke of Northumberland and landscaped by Capability Brown in the 18th century.

This magical house and its grounds within Alnwick Castle Estate will now be added to 13th century Hulne Abbey and majestic Alnwick Castle itself as a unique and distinctive marriage location. All three of these idyllic wedding venues hold marriage licences and couples can mix their celebrations between all three locations if they wish.

You could hold your marriage ceremony in Hulne Abbey and then celebrate with guests in a marquee on the lawns at Friars Well overlooking the lake? Alnwick Castle’s renowned chef will also serve relaxed al fresco barbeques if you wish? Or you could marry in the beautiful Drawing Room at Friars Well, enjoy a champagne reception and exquisite meal in the dining room and then continue the festivities with dancing in the Great Hall at Alnwick Castle? The choice is yours.

A marquee on the Friars Well lawns overlooking the lake could accommodate 160. Or why not ask our chef to prepare a tasty wedding barbeque in the grounds? Capacity for an intimate, formal wedding celebration dinner around the dining room table would be 16 and Friars Well can accommodate 18 people in nine bedrooms.
