Meet the four North East business leaders in with a chance of snagging EY's entrepreneur prize

Four business leaders from across the North East have been revealed as North of England finalists in EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year programme for 2017.

Drawn from a range of sectors, the four bosses are set to represent the region at the regional awards event on 24 June, joining 23 other leaders from across the North where they will vye for awards in categories including the ‘Rising star’ award to ‘Transformational leader’.

The finalists include Dawn Cranswick, Chief Executive at Gateshead’s PNE Group, who will be competing for the Transformational Leader award in recognition of her work with the enterprise and economic development organisation.

Elsewhere, Ryan Maughan, who is Managing Director at AVID Technology Group in Cramlington, has been shortlisted for the Disruptor category which rewards those who have established businesses which actively challenge traditional business models and thinking.

Group Managing Director at Newcastle-based training provider PTM Group, Jamie Paterson, will be representing the region in the Rising Star award, while Connect Holdings Limited’s Executive Chairman, Andrew Walton, is up for EY’s Scale Up award.

Ahead of the glitzy awards ceremony in a couple of month’s time, Craig Cumpson, EY Entrepreneur Of The Year leader in the North East, commented: “The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year programme brings together the UK’s most innovative and forward thinking business leaders at events held up and down the country every year, where they can share knowledge and ideas, debate the challenges of the day, and form lasting contacts and even working partnerships.

“It serves to support the enviable entrepreneurial community we have in the UK and celebrate the contribution that it makes to the economy, creating wealth and hundreds of jobs.”

This year’s EY Entrepreneur of the Year programme will be the 19th to be held in the UK and the 31st globally, with competitions running in more than 145 cities in 60 countries around the world.
