Durham IT company shortlisted for National Technology Awards
A Durham Business and IT Consultancy firm has been shortlisted for this year’s National Technology Awards.
Waterstons, has been named as a finalist in the Best Tech Place to Work category and will go head to head with some of UK’s biggest tech companies at the London event on May 17.
Founded in 1994, the company, headquartered in Durham, provides consultancy services to improve business performance through technology for organisations nationwide.
Having grown significantly since its establishment, Waterstons employs over 110 staff and has an office in London, with another soon to open in Scotland.
According to the organisers, The Best Tech Place to Work is awarded to companies that help their staff thrive, not just in terms of creating an effective technology workforce, but also in wider areas, such as supporting external activities and communities.
This is an ethos which has been greatly embedded and promoted in Waterstons over the last two decades, with its ‘People First’ philosophy ensuring the company looks after its colleagues as well as its customers. Initiatives include rewarding outcomes and allowing staff to work in a way which suits their work / life balance, various social events, extensive training opportunities and strong involvement with the community and local charities.
Speaking about being nominated, Susan Bell, CEO of Waterstons, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted in a national competition of this calibre.
“Our ‘People First’ philosophy, ensures we look after our colleagues as well as our customers. Embedded flexible working policies have enabled us to attract and retain talented people committed to partnering and adding value to our customers. By measuring achievements rather than time spent, our people are liberated to work from anywhere at any time, for the benefit of all.
“The culture and value we promote at Waterstons isn’t new, we’ve been doing it for over 20 years and it’s fantastic that we’re now being recognised on a national level. The competition is strong, but it’s great to be able to compete against some very large, well established technology companies.”
The National Technology Awards, hosted by FStech Magazine, are the showcase for the leaders of technology and were created to allow the technology sector to shine, celebrating the pioneers of new technology and to help drive standards and encourage excellence.
All winners will be determined by an independent judging panel and announced at the National Technology Awards Gala and Dinner at the Millennium Hotel in London’s Mayfair area, on May 17.
