Barratt Yorkshire West celebrates 1,000th Help to Buy!

Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, which includes the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, is celebrating huge success with the Government backed Help to Buy scheme, with the division delighted to announce its 1,000th purchase via the initiative at its Serenity development in Doncaster.

Having rented a flat at David Wilson Homes’ Serenity for over three years, Chris Buckley, a Team Leader for an insurance company, and his partner Laura Sterland, a Senior Co-ordinator for a qualifications Awarding Body, were looking to get a foot on the property ladder. After looking into different options, they knew the government’s Help to Buy scheme would give them the opportunity to move out of rented accommodation and buy a new house on the same development without needing such a large deposit.

Speaking about their experience of buying with Barratt, Chris, 28 commented:

“Having lived on the development for three years in a rented flat, we decided to set up our family home here because of the fantastic location. We’re close to entertainment, restaurants and shops, and we’ve always loved the design of the development and the variety of homes available here. Trying to save for a deposit whilst paying rent is not easy, but the Help to Buy scheme meant we only needed 5% and buying our dream home became a reality.

“We would not have been able to do this without the help of Gail, the Sales Adviser at Serenity. She was fantastic from the moment we decided we wanted to buy on the development and being first time buyers, we didn’t have any knowledge of the housebuying process, but Gail ensured we did everything we needed to, whilst picking up everything else that she could for us. Nothing was too much to ask for, and what is known to be a stressful time was made easy!”

Since the scheme was launched in April 2013, Help to Buy’s popularity in Yorkshire has been reflected across the Barratt Developments Yorkshire West division. The Help to Buy equity loan scheme allows a homebuyer to secure a brand new home up to the value of £600,000 with only a 5% deposit. Help to Buy has proven to be extremely successful across all developments, helping first time buyers get onto the property ladder.

Sam Wood, Sales Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, said: “Reaching our 1,000th Help to Buy purchase in the region is testament to the popularity of the scheme in Yorkshire. It’s fantastic that Help to Buy is continuing to provide affordable mortgages for people who might not have been able to purchase a home otherwise.”

Barratt Developments is the only national housebuilder to have achieved the maximum five star housebuilder rating in an annual customer satisfaction survey, run by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) for the eighth year running. Buyers can rest assured that all properties come with a ten-year National Housing Building Council (NHBC) warranty, as well as a Barratt Homes five-year warranty.
