Doors open for the regions redundancies

Redundancy can be incredibly stressful, throwing an individual’s personal and family lives into upheaval. It now seems like a rite of passage for anyone employed in today’s fast-changing job market. The good news is that Yorkshire now has more support in place than ever for those facing the difficulties and disruption that redundancy can cause.

Interserve Learning & Employment is providing a programme of skills and employability support for those affected by or at risk of redundancy, ‘Open Doors’.

Working in partnership with the National Careers service and Jobcentre Plus, residents and employers in Leeds, Bradford, Kirklees, Calderdale, Wakefield, Selby, York and Craven can access the service.

Through Open Doors, Interserve aims to minimise the impact of redundancy and keep skilled individuals employed in the region. Everyone accessing the service will have one-to-one support and a tailored programme of training, dependent on their needs.

Interserve has a team of recruitment specialists that work with employers across the region to source positions and arrange interviews on behalf of customers of Open Doors. Any employers with hard to fill vacancies can get in touch and benefit from the service too.

Businesses across the Leeds City Region can access the support for their employees but individuals can also contact us independently. Open Doors is fully funded by the Skills Funding agency and European Social Fund and therefore free to anyone that has recently been made redundant or who is under threat or notice of redundancy. Training can be delivered on site at a company’s premises or at one of the local Interserve branches.

Maryann Clark, Performance Manager said “This initiative provides so much opportunity to the Yorkshire community in reducing the impact of redundancy and job losses on people’s livelihoods. It is great to see so many people benefiting from the training already, and how it has increased their confidence, boosted interview skills and in most cases already lead to new employment opportunities.”
