Lakes Distillery toasts export success with new partnership Down Under
The Lakes Distillery has announced a new deal to bring its spirits to airports across Australia and New Zealand.
The Lake District-based distillery’s latest partnership, signed with multiple distributors, will enable passengers to buy The ONE Whisky, The Lakes Gin, The Lakes Gin Explorer and The Lakes Vodka in duty free stores Down Under over the coming months.
Airports in the agreement include Melbourne Airport, where Lakes Distillery products have featured since late April with retailer Dufry, and Sydney Airport this month through Heinemann.
Later this year, further airports will be added to the roster.
Lakes Distillery chairman Nigel Mills said: “As a leader of the growing English Whisky industry we are in a prime position to export our products.
“To date we have successfully launched our British blended whisky, The One, to Taiwan, one of the world’s largest consumers of whisky.”
He continued: “This is an important milestone on our journey as we start to leave a significant footprint on the world spirits market.
“As we move towards releasing The Lakes Malt in 2018 we aim to continue to export to target markets such as France, South Africa and Canada as we fly the flag for British craft spirits.”
The company’s director of travel retail, Neil Johnson, commented: “This really is a milestone for The Lakes Distillery as it is our first foray into the fast-growing Asia Pacific Travel Retail business.
“We are very excited to be partnering with some of the best Travel Retail operators not only in the region, but the world.”
The partnership follows a supplier deal signed with Brittany Ferries in April.
The Lakes Distillery operates from a production facility near Lake Bassenthwaite, with an office in Newcastle.
