GT Motorsport star races into Coventry
One of the leading stars of GT Motorsport will be visiting Coventry this week (10th May) as part of a concerted push to get more young people interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM).
Brose UK, who employs almost 1000 people across its two plants in the City, has teamed up with Coventry Transport Museum to host a special opportunity for pupils and students to meet Christian Engelhart, the factory driver for Lamborghini.
The two-time Porsche Cup Vice Champion will be on hand to talk about life competing on the track, teamwork and contributing to the engineering of the car so that he can improve performance.
He will be available outside the museum between 10am and 12pm, with visitors also able to view the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 that he is currently racing in the Blancpain GT Series.
“Christian is fresh from winning the Brands Hatch race on Sunday and, as part of his ambassador role with Brose, we felt it was a great opportunity for him to visit Coventry Transport Museum,” explained Petra Hladka, Director Human Resources at Brose UK.
“We have already sponsored a Learning Officer to help drive the STEAM agenda with schools and young people visiting the museum and this appearance will hopefully capture the imagination and get more people thinking of a possible career in manufacturing and engineering.”
She continued: “As well as Christian and his car, we will also be sending down a number of our apprentices and graduates so they can talk about their own experiences, including working on the latest technology and their career plans.
“We are always on the search for more talented people to join us.”
Francis Ranford, Director of Audience Engagement for Culture Coventry, added her support:
“Working with Brose gives us the chance to make a real impact on young people’s learning. We’re thrilled to able to host this event, which is a fantastic chance to showcase the opportunities of working in manufacturing and the benefit that STEAM can bring to their lives and future careers.”
Christian Engelhart was born in Ingolstadt in Germany and is a Lamborghini factory driver. The 30-year-old holds a degree in automotive engineering and, after racing this weekend, he and his team-mate Mirko Borlotti are the new leaders in the Blancpain GT Series driver standings.
