Dozens of young people attend Ruthin firm’s open day
Young people from as far away as Harlech, Prestatyn, Coedpoeth and Llangollen visited Jones Bros’ second annual careers’ open event.
A total of 60 people attended the event on Thursday 27 April at the civil engineering company’s headquarters, Ty Glyn, in Ruthin.
Ranging from secondary school pupils seeking work experience during the summer holiday, to college students and undergraduates, they heard presentations about opportunities in civil engineering, plant operations, commercial management and head office support jobs such as HR, finance and training.
Jones Bros staff, including former trainees who have been promoted through the ranks within the 350-strong company, were on hand to speak individually to visitors about their career development with the company.
Jones Bros director Ruth James said: “It was encouraging to see so many young people interested in learning about our company. Although our head office is in Ruthin, due to the nature of construction, the career variety and progression available with us isn’t always obvious.
“I hope the event provided an informal environment for young people to quiz our staff about their experience working here and how they’ve developed their careers with us.
“Applications are open for our summer work experience week and paid college and summer placement schemes now. These have proven to give a valuable insight into a career in construction with us.”
Information about careers at Jones Bros can found on the company’s website at www.jones-bros.com/careers.
