Ovo Spaces delivers new Metalysis site

METALYSIS, the company behind a disruptive technology for solid-state metals and novel alloys production, has moved to a new £10 million site on South Yorkshire’s Advanced Manufacturing Park with the support of award winning Sheffield commercial interior design and fit-out specialist Ovo Spaces.

At its new 22,000 square foot Materials Discovery Centre, Metalysis will carry out bespoke, commercial R&D projects to produce exotic metal powders for high performance alloys of growing demand among additive manufacturing applications, such as the aerospace and automotive industries.

Ovo Spaces were awarded the contract after impressing Metalysis with the use of the latest design processes, including intelligent 3D models utilising the most up to date technology, enabling Metalysis to experience the full potential of the new space from the earliest stages of design.

To create the ideal working environment, the Ovo Spaces team put together concept design proposals which demonstrated how their expert designers would successfully take the project from concept to completion, heralding the start of a successful partnership.

The Metalysis project utilised the latest BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology, the process of designing a building collaboratively, using just one coherent system of computer models rather than as separate sets of drawings.

Ovo Spaces undertook necessary planning applications which were to include an exterior plant compound and changes to the car parking arrangements at the site - all of which were successfully passed.

Quickly moving on to detailed design - and working closely with Ovo Spaces specialist design partners and Metalysis departments - a complete design and specification was developed to enable the building and its systems to support Metalysis’ process and production.

Ovo Spaces also tendered the various packages of work to their approved suppliers as work on the site began.

“This has been a major project for Ovo Spaces and one we believe shows the whole range of specialist skills we bring to all our partnerships, delivering successful design and fit out solutions,” said Sales and Marketing Manager Rebecca Knight.

“It demonstrates particularly well the importance of BIM technology, a fantastic tool for collaborative working which saves time, waste and inevitably costs for both contractor and client.”

Metalysis Systems Manager Matthew Freeman commented: “From the initial concept to final design and build Ovo Spaces have been superb to work with.

“Despite having many diverse design requirements they have met all our goals visually and practicality.

“The team have always been there for us by phone and email and nothing is ever too much trouble. I would highly recommend the services of Ovo Spaces.”

Other recent Ovo Spaces clients include, Greencore Foods, KPMG, Warp Films, brand communications specialists WE ARE, Handlesbanken, Firth Rixson, BOC, Saint-Gobain, JRI Orthopedics, Wake Smith Solicitors and the development of the Park Hill Commercial Units.
