Altius publishes new Retail 2020 report
Retail supply chain specialist Altius VA has published the Retail 2020 Report, providing a future insight into the trends that will affect facilities and property managers.
Drawing on forecasts from the likes of PwC, Forbes, Deloitte and other global specialists, the report covers three key trends that are set to shake up procurement in the retail sector.
Len Simmons, Chief Operating Officer for Altius VA said: “Global retail consultancy FITCH has predicted that retail will change more in the next five years than the past 50. The demise of BHS and rise of Amazon are only the start of this transition. Our report examines how the move to smarter shopping will create new demands for procurement, FM, property and supply chain managers.”
The three future trends presented in the report are:
1. Faster, more personalised fulfilment - the use of customisation tools, drones and robots, e-Brokerage platforms and other technologies to give customers more control and choice over their shopping experience, enabling them to receive goods tailored to their needs when and where they want them.
2. Triple transparency - consumers’ demand for brands to demonstrate environmental and ethical standards throughout their entire supply chain and continue to associate themselves with ‘generous brands’
3. Retailtainment - the creation of physical retail spaces that entertain as well as sell. Consumers will seek in-store inspiration, including eye-catching displays and integration of interactive digital capabilities.
“There are huge challenges ahead for FM, supply chain and procurement professionals in the retail sector”, said Len Simmons. “Greater use of new technologies will be key to meeting high expectations of customers to purchase customised products with fast turnaround and to provide more interactive digital experiences both on-line and in-store. Managers will have to work harder to create more creative, memorable shopping environments and to protect ethical and environmental standards across their supply chain.”
Altius VA provides compliance software and management services for retail FM organisations globally, working with the likes of Marks & Spencer, MML, SEGRO, Debenhams, Morrisons, Bellrock, Waterstones, Arcadia Group, Superdrug and B&Q, to help them find new, qualified suppliers and achieve compliance and visibility across their supply chains.
