Gatwick names latest contractors for £2.5bn investment framework
London airport Gatwick has chosen three infrastructure firms to work on capacity assessments as part of its five-year planning framework to expand passenger numbers at the transport hub.
Arup, Atkins and Jacobs have all been selected as part of the £2.5bn framework where they will support Gatwick through capacity analysis and modelling, including the modelling of passengers and baggage passing through the airport to help improve operational efficiency.
The announcement comes as the airport embarks on its biggest-ever investment drive and the biggest single year of the framework, which will see £240m invested in improving passenger experience and expanding capacity.
Despite failing to gain Government approval for a new runway, passenger growth has remained robust at the airport with around 44m passengers currently passing through the airport every year.
Gatwick’s Chief Planning Officer Tim Norwood, said: “The award of this framework sends a clear message that Gatwick is committed to continued growth, despite the constraints of the single runway and our existing infrastructure.
“We will always look for clever ways to improve passenger processes while being focussed on what people want, and it’s important to work with specialists in this field to understand some of the critical flows of the airport.”
