Chamber partners with Nifco to counter North East brain drain
The North East England Chamber of Commerce is working in partnership with Stockton-based manufacturer Nifco in an attempt to to keep talented, young people in the region.
Launching today at Acklam Green Centre, Middlesbrough, the Great Reasons to Build Your Career in the North East campaign will popularise positive facts about working and living in the region.
information is available on the Chamber website, with research conducted in response to sessions with students around the North East which asked questions about their understanding of the labour market and how they approached planning for their future careers.
Also at the launch, part of the Chamber’s regular Linking Business and Education events, will be information for businesses on working with schools to improve careers guidance, aligned with the Good Career Guidance benchmarks identified by the Gatsby Foundation.
Speakers will include Esh Group’s head of Corporate Responsibility and Added Value, Darush Dodds, outlining its year-long employability programme and Chamber director of policy, Ross Smith on the advantages of closer working between business and education.
Mike Matthews, Chamber President, and managing director, Nifco UK said: “This campaign came about as Chamber members found young people were often unaware of great employment opportunities on their doorstep.
“We have world-leading innovative and exciting companies in sectors predicted to grow in the next 10 years including electric vehicles, renewable energy, life sciences, software and app development.
“Our future workforce, whether they are graduates, apprentices or school leavers, need to realise there is are so many exciting career opportunities within easy reach, offering access to a great quality of life right here in the North East.”
