Anthony Woodings takes up ICAEW Manchester presidency

Anthony Woodings, Partner in Hurst & Company Accountants LLP accountancy practice in Stockport, has been appointed President of ICAEW Manchester Chartered Accountants.

He now heads the 5000-strong membership group across Greater Manchester.

ICAEW Manchester Chartered Accountants is the local society of the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales), a leading worldwide professional membership organisation.

The role of the society locally is to represent the views of GM members to the national body and have a voice on matters affecting business in the area.

Anthony also sits on the ICAEW governing council as an elected member for Manchester.

He commented: “I am looking forward to the next 12 months. It’s an exciting time to be representing Manchester’s voice as the city region seeks to maximise the benefit of devolved powers to better serve local people.

“In the same way I will be working on an in-depth review of how ICAEW Manchester and our members can be better supported by the national institute.”

Anthony will continue to champion access to the profession like his predecessor Alan Clarke, through a range of training routes. He said: “Some of our member firms are real trailblazers here for the new apprenticeship schemes, encouraging entry into accountancy for all.”

Anthony’s appointment comes as ICAEW itself refreshes its brand and positioning to reaffirm its commitment to creating a ‘world of strong economies’.

ICAEW Manchester’s membership is divided evenly between chartered accountants in practice – including the Big Four – and those working in industry, representing around 80% of SMEs in Greater Manchester.

Anthony is a past Treasurer for the Citizens Advice Bureau in Stockport and audit committee member of Stockport College.

Born in Stockport, Anthony trained at Booth Ainsworth before joining Hurst in 2000. He has a large manufacturing and contracting client base and responsibility for graduate recruitment and audit compliance within the Hurst organisation.

Alan will be supported by newly appointed Vice President Julie Radcliffe, Audit Director at KPMG Manchester.

Outside of work Anthony is married to Fiona and is devoted to his twin six-year-old girls.
