de Winter Becomes a Dementia Friend

To celebrate Dementia Awareness Week (14th – 20th May), the team at Liverpool-based PR agency, de Winter, has become a Dementia Friend.

Dementia Friends is a campaign led by the Alzheimer’s Society, aiming to train and educate people on how to help people with dementia.

The de Winter team attended training organised by a long-standing client, Deafness Support Network (DSN).

One of the main aims of the afternoon training was to change the perceptions people have about dementia, and the negative stigma that sometimes surrounds the condition.

The session touched on the different ways that individuals are affected in their daily life, and different methods of support and communication were outlined to help companies and individuals work with dementia.

Managing Director at de Winter, Kate Cox, said: “It’s important to change how people perceive dementia; and we’re committed to help share what we have learned.”

“The session was particularly helpful in allowing us to properly understand dementia and really inspired us to get involved. We’re proud to say that we’re now Dementia Friends and will be helping to use our communication skills to share and educate people.”

“As a Dementia Friend, you don’t have to take huge actions. From wearing a Dementia Friends badge, to being more patient in shopping queues, or even by telling five friends about the initiative, it all contributes towards a positive change.”
