Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of York visit iconic housing development for a taste of luxury

26 May 2017: Following a tremendous sales success with the first phase of homes at David Wilson Homes’ iconic The Chocolate Works, the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of York recently visited the development to get a taste of the luxury on offer for themselves.

The Lord Mayor, Dave Taylor, and Lady Mayoress, Susan Ridley, were given a tour of the site ahead of the launch of the next phase of homes being released, which are anticipated to be in high demand thanks to the excellent location and luxury attention to detail on offer.

As well as experiencing the lavish amenities of the site, the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress were interested in learning about its history, and how elements of Terry’s chocolate factory have been incorporated into the design of The Chocolate Works homes. The iconic Clock Tower of the remaining factory building stands as a memorial landmark and focal point, and is complemented by the townhouses burnished gold window finishing and choice of bricks.

The Lord Mayor of York commented, “The Lady Mayoress and I have been impressed by The Chocolate Works and it’s easy to see from the classy interiors and high ceilings why they have had such rapid sales success. We welcome the second phase launch, which will bring much-needed homes to this sought-after area. Quality family homes are in high demand and David Wilson Homes is helping York to meet this, while introducing architecture which is modern but with references to the much-loved Terry’s factory.“

The development was named Winner at the National Housebuilder Awards in 2016 for Best Design, and David Wilson Homes was recently rated as a maximum 5 housebuilder in the national Home Builders Federation (HBF) customer satisfaction survey for the eighth year in a row – the only housebuilder to achieve this.

The Lady Mayoress of York added: “It is great to be able to see the links between the original chocolate factory and how this has inspired the site and it’s no surprise that it has won awards for its outstanding attention to detail, particularly the interiors of the properties we visited.“

Sarah Hanna, Sales Manager at David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East, commented, “It was a great honour to have the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress visit our development. We are excited about the launch of the second phase, which will see a range of family homes and townhouses available to purchase. As the site is becoming more established, there is a fantastic community growing here and with its close location to the racecourse and city centre, we expect demand to continue to be high for this next phase of homes.“

The Chocolate Works features a selection of luxury 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes and with David Wilson Homes offering Help to Buy and Part Exchange schemes for house hunters, its perfect for families and professionals looking for everything the vibrant city of York has to offer. The second phase of the housing scheme has now launched.
