Israeli translation business Transcom chooses Manchester for European base

Israeli translation firm Transcom has chosen Manchester for its first UK office.

The company, which provides language services for academics and professionals in the life sciences sector, will use its new North West site as a base for serving clients in more than 30 countries, including the US and across Europe.

Matan Topper-Erez, the company’s executive director, said: “Coming to Manchester was the best option for Transcom.

“The UK is a great place to do business and for us, Manchester seemed like the perfect fit based on its innovative history, diverse health community and lucrative networking opportunities essential to growing our client base.”

He continued: “As the first translation company to specialise in this industry, Transcom is quite unique, and before moving to Manchester there were no other life sciences specialists in the region.

“Translation is an integral part of drug development in order to test or sell products, so I’d like to think we’re adding value to the region’s health ecosystem.”

Transcom has a global network of 600 freelance translators, some of whom are based in the UK.

The firm said it is currently working closely with the University of Manchester’s Careers Service to recruit talented new translators.

Discussing the decision to move into the city, Matan added: “Corridor Manchester is one of the main reasons I chose Transcom’s new location due to it having full access to the innovation district.

“I’m able to meet clients easily which was an obvious challenge from Israel. As Manchester has a higher-calibre of senior translators and life-science experts, I’m confident that recruiting for those roles will be easier compared to Tel Aviv.”

The Corridor Manchester Life Sciences Enterprise Zone houses a 60k-strong workforce, with more than half employed in either education, health, science or technology.
