Free EDBS recruitment service to help young NEETs into work

Businesses are being offered a free recruitment service which could help young people into work.

East Durham Business Service has introduced the service aimed at small businesses in the area who are looking to bring in additional support.

The scheme would enable employers to tap into the support of EDBS’s Consultant Simon Naisbett, who would look at the requirements of each individual business and then identify suitable young people who would be interviewed by him to make the process as quick and simple as possible.

Simon said: “One of our key objectives is to help young people not in employment, education or training to gain the skills employers look for, and then help them to find employment opportunities with businesses in the area.

“However, we know businesses, especially micro firms and SMEs, can be nervous about taking on a young person in case they don’t have the ability or attitude they’re looking for.

“By tapping into this new support service, the burden is taken off them and I carry out the whole recruitment process on their behalf.

“I work with these young people over a period of months so I am in the ideal position to select the right person based on the brief provided by the employer. Essentially it’s a free recruitment service and a win win for the business.”

The EDBS team works with young people to put them through training programmes which enhance their basic skills as well as giving them a flavour of the skills employers in the area require.

Simon added: “Many of the young people who are referred to us want to work but simply aren’t ready, however by the end of their time with me they have learned what it takes to be an employee. They’re ideally placed to enter the workplace, and hopefully the introduction of this scheme will help even more of them access a secure, long term job with real potential to develop.”
