Family-run Sheffield business creates new jobs as turnover surpasses £54m

Pricecheck, the Sheffield-based family business, has reported a record-breaking year a turnover hit £54.7m for 2016/17.

This performance marks an increase of £11.11m on last year’s turnover.

Pricecheck is an international distributor of toiletries, food, cosmetics and other branded consumer goods and exports to over 75 countries around the world.

The company was established in 1978 by the parents of Mark Lythe and Debbie Harrison, who now run the company as joint managing directors.

Debbie Harrison said: “After winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2015, we’ve gone from strength to strength. We’ve increased the number of countries we export to and have further developed the strong relationships we have with key direct suppliers from across the globe.

“Seeing the turnover grow from £40m to over £54m in the last three years has been a tremendous achievement for all involved and we couldn’t be happier, but now the aim for the business is to reach £100m by 2020.”

Pricecheck has also recently welcomed new members to the team. Andy Fairweather joins the buying team from Maplin in Sheffield, Jonathan Garnett joins from Harper James Solicitors, and Jessica Barber joins the firm’s business development function.

During this period, Pricecheck’s recruitment programme also offered full-time employment to graduates who joined as part of the company’s placement scheme from Sheffield Hallam University.

HR Manager Lucy Goddard said: “We’re extremely proud of our relationship with Sheffield Hallam University and have been delighted with the placement students we’ve received in the four years we’ve been working together.

“This year has been truly exceptional and we’re excited to welcome back the students we’ve had here into full-time roles.”
