Middlesbrough town centre welcomes opening of traditional sweet shop
Dodds Brown, the independent commercial property consultancy, is behind the opening of a traditional sweet shop in Middlesbrough town centre.
The Teesside-based company has secured the letting to The Sweet Corner, which has launched in Dundas Indoor Market.
The new shop offers an array of traditional sweets, modern classics and new flavours sold loose from jars, as well as a range of slush, candy floss and popcorn.
Vince Gibson, the shop’s owner, explained that older favourites such as cola cubes and fizzy bottles are proving popular with his customers, but choc nibbles are becoming the number one choice.
He said: “We’ve been very busy in our first few days of trading with both new and traditional sweets selling well, but at the moment choc nibbles are our top seller.”
Mr Gibson, the former owner of Hartlepool pet shop, wanted to stay in retail after he sold his business and visited all the markets in the North East to find the best location.
He added: “I really liked Dundas Indoor Market and thought it was ideal for the Sweet Corner. It’s very accessible and the shoppers and other traders are welcoming and friendly. Market Manager David Harris has been most helpful from my initial enquiry onwards.”
David Harris, Dundas market manager, commented: “The Sweet Corner is an ideal addition to our market and is one of a number of new traders we will be welcoming in the next few weeks, as word continues to spread that this is an ideal place to run a business in Middlesbrough.
“We want a broad range of traders in the Dundas Market, so if you are looking for a location for a new business like Vince, or want to re-locate an established business, please get in touch.
“We’ve still got a limited number of Enterprise Units available, where the rent is as little as £10 per day all in. There is just the rent to pay, no worries about costs for security, utilities and rates.”
