P C Henderson Awarded SME Exporter of the Year at North East Exporters’ Awards

Sliding and folding door hardware manufacturer, P C Henderson, has won the coveted crown of SME Exporter of the Year at this year’s North East Exporter’s Awards.

Shortlisted alongside two other business from the region, the company went through two rounds of judging before being announced as the winners at the prestigious awards dinner held at Ramside Hall Hotel on 15th June.

Organised by the North East Chamber of Commerce, the awards aim to recognise North East companies that are significantly contributing to the region’s economy through their exporting efforts and achievements. The SME Exporter of the Year category, sponsored by Port of Tyne, was one of eight award categories on the evening.

Taking a unique approach to every new market and listening closely to our customers has enabled us to significantly grow and sustain our overseas trading activity. We currently export to over 70 countries worldwide and in recent years our exporting sales have accounted for over 65% of our total company sales – making a significant contribution to the north east overseas trading economy.

“A focus on having a localised approach in each region has allowed us to cater for individual client needs more quickly and efficiently. We have also invested in R&D to aid product development and innovation to sustain and meet the unique demands of each market sector.”

Judging criteria for the award took into account the development of an export strategy, the product range exported and the complexity of markets served. Nolan Gray, Business Development Director at Port of Tyne commented “We found P C Henderson to be a company that wholly encapsulates the modern SME exporter. An honesty and commitment to their people, markets and processes alongside their attention to detail made the company stand out. They are the ideal representative for the North East region in the wider world and fully deserve the award.”

The company has been driving its expansion into new geographic markets with recent focus on USA, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and UAE. P C Henderson’s outstanding export strategy has seen its sliding and folding door hardware specified in projects across the globe including hotels, restaurants, offices, shops, homes, warehouses as well as agricultural, industrial and educational buildings.
