This learning experience platform has raised £250k in angel funding
Obby, the community marketplace which allows users to list and book learning experiences in London, has announced it has raised £250k in an angel funding round.
The platform, which only launched in mid-2016, has attracted investment from a line-up of investors from figures as varied as the founder of Classic FM to early investors in the likes of Nutmeg and the former head of Business Development at Deliveroo.
Founded by Tom Batting and Max Kufner, the platform provides experts with a marketplace to offer learning experiences which users can then discover and book via their website.
Launched with an initial focus on food and drink along with arts and crafts, the startup’s founders are now targetting a move into new verticals, including music, languages and technology classes, in the coming months along with launches in cities through the UK.
Investors in its angel round include Sir Peter Michael (founder of Quantel and Classic FM), Steve Parish (Founder of Tag Worldwide and seed investor in Seenit), Django Davidson (seed investor in Nutmeg and BizEquity) and Nick Green (former Head of Business Development at Deliveroo and seed investor in Juro).
Following its funding round, Max Kufner, Co-Founder, commented: “When we launched Obby we just had a sign-up form to a Dim Sum class that we organised for our friends and family. Now we have a great looking website and are currently introducing proper back-office software for our suppliers.”
