ISG secures £20m work for new orthopaedic facility at Harley Street

Global construction firm ISG has been awarded a new multi-million pound contract to deliver a new orthopaedic and spine care facility on behalf of Schoen Clinic.

The new centre located on Wigmore Street in the world-renowned Harley Street Medical Area will see the transformation of a seven-storey office building into a new 79,000 sq ft advanced medical facility.

In what will be the German family-owned hospital group’s first ever private medical facility in the UK, the new centre will boast opulent interiors after project architect Building Design Partnership were tasked with developing a style reminiscent of high-end hotels.

The facility will also house 39 en-suite patient rooms located on its top three floors along with a new reception, consultation rooms, therapy and office space to complement three operating theatres and radiology suite on the lower floors.

Due for completion in early 2018, work on the project has already begun with the building currently being stripped back to its shell before strengthening work is carried out to help the building support new state-of-the-art machinery.

Danny Blakeston, Managing Director at ISG’s Engineering Services division, said the the construction business was ‘pleased’ to be assisting Schoen Clinic in delivering their first facility outside Germany.

He commented: “With limited scope for new-build facilities in prime London locations, the growing trend is the conversion of existing properties into advanced healthcare facilities.

“Delivering these highly-engineered spaces into existing infrastructure is an immensely complex and challenging proposition and an area where ISG has unrivalled expertise through projects like our recently completed core pathology unit for HSL in a former office block at One Mabledon Place, near Euston.”
