Leyton Orient have been snapped up by the CEO of Dunkin' Donuts

The takeover of Leyton Orient Football Club by a consortium led by Dunkin’ Donuts boss Nigel Travis has been confirmed in a move that fans are hoping will halt the club’s terminal decline.

Leyton Orient fan Travis, who is Chairman and CEO of Dunkin’ Brands and Eagle Investments have agreed to acquire the club bringing an end to the ill-fated reign of former owner Francesco Becchetti.

Exact details of the stake and amount invested have not been revealed, but the news will be music to the ears of O’s fans who have seen their club tumble out of the Football League under Becchetti stewardship and narrowly dodged a winding up petition at the High Court.

The takeover has also been matched with a boardroom reshuffle which will see Travis appointed Chairman of the club, with fellow investor Kent Teague named as Director and businessmen Matthew Taylor assuming the role of interim CEO.

In a statement on the club’s website, Travis said: “I have been a passionate Leyton Orient supporter for my entire life and feel a great sense of responsibility to the players, the staff, the fans and the community.

“We have challenges in front of us, and I am not under-estimating those. However, over the long-term, we believe we can return the Club to the Football League.”
