World-renowned chef Martha Ortiz to open Mexican eatery this September
The date of the grand opening of the ‘much-anticipated’ modern Mexican restaurant from world renowned chef, Martha Ortiz, has finally been revealed, with the eatery setting up shop at the InterContinental Park Lane.
Ortiz will be bringing her mix of modern and traditional Mexican cuisine to London on 8 September with her Ella Canta restaurant, serving up dishes that have made her one of the most renowned chefs in Latin America with produce sourced from across the UK.
Drawing inspiration from her Dulce Patria restaurant in Mexico City, dishes on offer will include starters such as ‘vampire ceviche with mango and sangrita sorbet’, while a key focus of the menu will be ‘mole’, a rich Mexican sauce that has its roots dating back to the 16th Century.
The Mexican heritage of the new venue will also stretch to its innards, with interior architects David Collins Studio and Creative Director Simon Rawlings drawing on Mexican modernist architecture and artwork, while a palette of blush pink, sun-bleached red, blue and tan will emphasise the tones and atmosphere of Oaxaca.
Ortiz is also banking on the bar area at Ella Canta becoming a destination in its own right, with a ‘carefully-sourced’ selection of mezcals and tequilas along with a menu of cocktails with ingredients drawing on Martha’s Mexican heritage and culture.
