TV’s Joey Essex heads to Gateshead to drive apprenticeships

TV celebrity and reality show star Joey Essex will visit Gateshead later this month to deliver an event geared towards inspiring young people to enter employment through apprenticeships.

Hosted by Gateshead Council Learning Skills, The Joey Essex Apprenticeship Show will take place at the Hilton Hotel, Bottle Bank, on Saturday, 22 July, between 11.30am and 2pm.

Fee to attend, the event is aimed at young people from Tyne and Wear who are aged between 15 and 23. All attendees are reportedly guaranteed an apprenticeship with employers signed up with Gateshead Council.

Apprenticeships are available in business admin, ICT, customer service and retail, hospitality, health and social care services, cleaning and support services and also for teaching assistants and nursery assistants.

The Council says it has turned to Joey as an example of an individual who has succeeded through hard work and dedication despite being without higher education qualifications himself.

Councillor Angela Douglas, Gateshead Council Cabinet Member for Children and Young People explained: “This is an ideal opportunity for young people to find out more about apprenticeships in a relaxed setting.

“We’re grateful to have Joey Essex who will be able to speak from experience how you don’t necessarily need great academic qualifications to succeed, just hard work and commitment.

“Apprenticeships are a great opportunity to gain experience and qualifications while earning a decent salary.

“They are an increasingly popular choice for young people and can prove to be an excellent start on the career ladder. Apprenticeships play a crucial role in helping businesses grow and develop the levels of expertise needed to resource our future industries.”

Twenty six year old Joey, who rose to fame in the reality television series, The Only Way is Essex’ and has also appeared on “I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here”, “Celebrity Juice”, “Educating Joey Essex” and “The Jump”, has confirmed he will answer questions and take pictures with attendees on the day.
