London law firm Joelson is forging new links in China and South East Asia

A London law office is currently enjoying growing interest in its legal services from South East Asia as it looks to lay down more roots in the massive Chinese market.

Joelson, which deals in a range of personal and commercial services, has said it has experienced a sustained interest from the region, stemming fears that Brexit could see Asian clients turn away from the UK.

The law firm recently attended a Sino-European Entrepreneurs Summit 2018 at Grosvenor House in London as a guest of London & Partners, in addition to hosting a pair of Chinese businesses delegations.

Touching upon the firm’s growing links in China, Joelson’s Chairman, Sheldon Cordell, said: “We continue to see a growing interest in our legal services from across China – and the UK as a whole, despite Brexit, seems to be of growing interest to South East Asia at the moment.

“We are delighted to be working so closely with London & Partners and the China Britain Business Council to encourage more businesses to come to the UK, and London in particular.”

On top of its international relations efforts, the Marylebone-headquartered solicitors has also announced it has entered into a non-exclusive memorandum of understanding with Zhongfa Sichuan, a Chengdu-based legal firm which operates through South East China.

As a result of the MOU, the two firms have agreed to share their expertise on the UK and Chinese jurisdictions to help clients access the legal advice with a paricular focus on intellectual property cases.

A Joelson spokesperson said that the agreement would help to cement the firm’s position in the Sichuan region and establish a strong link with one of the region’s leading firms.

The statement added: “They are one of China’s leading experts in the field of IP, among many other areas of law, and I am certain our new link will prove beneficial to both of our clients.”
