Newcastle web builders look to match city centre expansion with new hires

Web design business Edward Robertson has moved into new premises at Newcastle’s Generator Studios as it looks facilitate the future growth of its team

The firm, which has taken a five-year lease at city centre office complex, plans to expand its team by recruiting a further five staff members over the course of the summer.

Owners Graham Miller and Simon Crisp, who currently employ 16 people at the business, have been building websites for the past 20 years.

Since establishing the business, the pair have grown the business from a turnover of £14,000 to £700,000, building well over 500 websites along the way.

Graham Miller, 45, said: “Moving into the new premises has been a major step forward in our growth plans and will allow us to increase our capacity with more office and studio workspace.

“In fact, the Generator Studios offer exactly the kind of creative working space I envisioned when I set up the business back in 1997 working from our first, tiny office, with just a table, modem and computer!”

Jamie Mableson, investment director at Metnor Property Group, said: “We are delighted that Edward Robertson have chosen the Generator Studios as their long- term home and we congratulate them on their continued success and growth.

“It’s great to be able to support a local business that is thriving and investing in the business, helping the local economy and creating jobs for the future.

“The Generator Studios has proven very popular with creative and technology-based companies and Edward Robertson will be a very welcome addition.”

Graham said: “While we’ve been creating websites since before Google existed and have a raft of awards under our belt, our proudest achievements involve our fantastic team of talented people.

“We’re particularly proud that Greg, who joined us in 1996 through the then-known YTS scheme, has built his career with us and is still with us 20 years later.

“We’re also delighted to welcome Chris Prusakiewicz on his placement year from Northumbria University and are looking forward to expanding the team further over the next few months and expect our space at the Generator Studios will provide a great space to continue fostering an excellent working environment.”
