Special buzz at re-launch of Hull business centre as tenants raise hundreds for The Bee Lady
There was an extra special buzz at the re-launch of a Hull business centre as it raised £500 to support Bee Lady, Jean Bishop, in her quest to raise £95,000 for Age UK for her 95th birthday.
To mark its official opening, BIZ HUB Hull, located in Melton Court, Melton, challenged tenants to take on a gym challenge - 95 in 9 to 5.
Staff from companies whose offices are located within the newly renovated centre, took turns to complete a total of 95 miles on the onsite gym equipment between 9am – 5pm, with all funds raised donated towards Jean’s biggest fundraising challenge to date.
Hull’s famous Bee Lady, who has gained national recognition for her charity efforts and who was recently given the Freedom of Hull, attended the event to offer encouragement to all those taking part. Jean also conducted the ribbon cutting ceremony to officially announce the re-launch of the building.
Speaking about the event, Jean, said: “I think it’s fantastic what the tenants have done and you can see they have worked really hard to complete the challenge.
“Everyone has been so kind and welcoming and I hope the centre is a great success, as you can see how much they have transformed the building.”
Speaking about the event, Centre Manager, Donna Weldrick said: “We were delighted with how the event went and that we were able to mark our re-launch by helping Jean to raise money for such a great cause.
“She has campaigned tirelessly throughout the city for many years and deserves the complete backing of everyone.
“Having an onsite gym meant our tenants were able to take part in the challenge without too much disruption during their working day, which is why I think so many were willing to help out.”
Following a £300,000 investment, BIZ HUB Hull has undergone a complete refurbishment, both inside and out and now boasts an onsite gym, all new kitchens, renovated toilets, showers and changing rooms, meeting rooms, new carpets and a new reception.
The building, which holds 63 offices varying in sizes, has also undergone an IT and telecoms upgrade and is in the process of installing an onsite café and light industrial units.
Speaking of the renovations, Ryan Barber, operations manager of Biz-Hub, said: “The building was tired, rundown and in urgent need of attention when we took it over.
“It was clear this was having an effect on the people renting out the offices, as tenant morale was really low.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with the centre’s new look and feedback we’ve had about the changes. The success of the re-launch event, really has been the icing on the cake.”
