Society-sponsored litter pick rewards the local community
A local business has sponsored a community litter pick, complete with a pie and a pint reward for everyone who took part.
Darlington Building Society is a board member of Darlington Cares, which works to improve and maintain the local environment. Together, the organisations hosted Pick, Pie and a Pint on Friday (July 14th) which saw volunteers enjoy a free pie and a pint at the Hole in the Wall in Darlington town centre, as a thank you for taking part.
Volunteers, who were kitted up with litter picking equipment and split into four squads, competed in a friendly competition to see who could collect the most rubbish. All teams did their part and there were many a full bag of litter from around the Darlington area.
Now in its second month, the Pick, Pie and a Pint event was deemed a huge success attracting more than 40 members of the local community. Darlington Building Society’s Chief Executive, Colin Fyfe, said: “This is a fantastic initiative designed to bring business people together both socially and for the good of the town as a whole – something Darlington Building Society is passionate about.”
Speaking on behalf of Darlington Cares, Seth Pearson, added: “We’re thrilled that Darlington Building Society supported us to hold another Pick, Pie and a Pint event, not only with sponsorship, but also with several team members taking part.
“This event was even more popular than the last and we’re excited for this to grow even more each month, helping more people make stronger connections in their local community.”
