Young’s Foods joins Fairway Foodservice as part of strategy to double its turnover
Young’s Foods has joined the Fairway Foodservice buying group, as part of the wholesaler’s plans to double its turnover in the next two years.
The family-owned company, based in Hull, is in the middle of an ambitious growth strategy that has also seen the company extend its premises and recruit new members of staff.
Young’s, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, will officially become Fairway’s 20th member on 1 September. And Dave Young, founder and managing director of Young’s, which has a turnover of £2.5m and employs 15, sees the move as a key step in achieving its business objectives.
“Excitement levels are at an all-time high throughout the company,” he said. “We know about the benefits of joining a buying group, and Fairway was the perfect fit for us.
“It has a refreshing focus on quality, and the actions to match it. It targets higher quality products, and its own-brand range is market-leading.
“We will have access to more products and be able to offer our existing customers more solutions. “Fairway also provides comprehensive marketing and PR support, which will be key to attracting new clients and further targeting the likes of schools, colleges, universities, pubs, and golf clubs.
It will also support our expansion in different regions including Lincolnshire.
“We’re thrilled to be joining Fairway, and are eager to work closely with its team and the other members.” Young’s Foods has already recruited three members of staff in preparation of joining Fairway, with further plans to increase the team in the next 12 months.
The wholesaler has also added a 2,500 sq ft extension onto its existing premises, taking its headquarters in Hull to 6,500 sq ft. In addition, its new freezer will be installed at the end of August.
Dave added: “We are serious about our growth strategy, and Fairway is the premier buying group that we feel can take us forward. “The benefits of Fairway extend beyond access to more products and marketing support. “The group has a wonderful mix of wholesalers, many also family-owned like us, who have already been incredibly supportive.
“Fairway membership is giving us a network where we can ask for advice and discuss issues and opportunities within the industry.” Fairway’s chief executive Chris Binge said: “Young’s Foods has a brilliant reputation and is striving to accomplish ambitious goals.
“We’re pleased to welcome Dave and his team to the Fairway group. We look forward to supporting Young’s over the coming months and years.” Fairway Foodservice is a buying and marketing organisation, which operates on behalf of wholesalers based in the UK, Ireland and Spain.
Founded in 1984 by five frozen food wholesale distribution companies, it has grown from a collective turnover of £7m in 1984 to £650.5m in 2016.
Alongside access to Fairway Foodservice’s extensive range of products, members benefit from collective buying power on a number of lines, significant marketing support and subscription discounts to the Erudus One product specification database.
