Innovative psychotherapy service launches at Lingfield Point
A PIONEERING psychotherapy company has launched a range of training courses and therapy services from its new Darlington base.
APT Training and Therapy Services showcased its programme to 30 attendees at an event held at Lingfield Point.
The company offers one-day courses on a range of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, addiction and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Private training providers and colleges offer courses that take from ten weeks to two years to complete, whereas APT’s one-day sessions mean those working in charity, business and education can quickly build their awareness about mental health issues.
The company also provides one-to-one therapy for private clients such as veterans and reservists, working with the charity PTSD Resolution.
It was founded by business partners Christine McIntyre and Paul Martin, who both lectured in psychological therapy at Bishop Auckland College.
Christine said: “We want to provide simple and accessible training on mental health issues and help people manage and prevent them. For us it’s about awareness and prevention, then therapy if necessary.”
Paul added: “The launch has gone very well and the amount of interest we’ve had has been encouraging.
“There’s clearly a need for affordable and accessible training to help people across the third sector and private sector better understand mental health.
“We want to let everyone know that it’s official – we’re open for business.”
In April the company moved into its first office space at Lingfield House, in a space designed for start-ups and SMEs.
“We’ve been looking for a base for years, but everywhere we looked was hard to access or its offices were like tiny boxes – so when we gave Lingfield Point a shot we were so impressed,” Christine added.
“The building itself is glorious, the staff were so friendly and we more or less decided to move in on the spot.
“It feels friendly, light, buzzing, like a real community. We love the whole ethos of the place.”
Lingfield Point boasts 24-hour security, an on-site concierge, superfast broadband connectivity and extensive car parking.
Eddie Humphries, estate manager at Lingfield Point, said: “I’m thrilled that APT has made its home here at Lingfield Point, this is the perfect location to deliver its important services across Darlington and the North East.
“We’re proud to offer excellent facilities and customer service for SMEs and start-ups, and it’s that which draws small businesses here.”
Christine is no stranger to Lingfield Point, having worked at the famous Patons and Baldwins wool factory when she left school in the late 1960s.
The factory was converted into today’s hub for businesses and warehousing in the 2000s.
She said: “The magnificent entrance is still the same, but I feel much more inspired by my work now than I did binding balls of wool as a teenager!”
