North Yorkshire shredder specialist secures top safety accreditation

Industrial shredder manufacturer UNTHA UK has been awarded a prestigious accreditation from SafeContractor, for its commitment to health and safety.

The North Yorkshire team achieved the recognition following a rigorous audit of the company’s safety protocol.

Supplying shredding technology that weighs up to 24 tonnes – and can process materials ranging from everyday household and commercial waste, through to automotive scrap, refrigerators and mattresses – UNTHA UK operates in what has the potential to be a high hazard environment. But with well-established health and safety policies, risk management procedures and robust training, the organisation upholds an exemplary incident-free record.

UNTHA UK’s health and safety stance was therefore thoroughly assessed in order to secure the approved SafeContractor membership on the first attempt.

SafeContractor is a well-known third party accreditation scheme which acknowledges the highest health and safety standards among UK-wide contractors. The resulting certification is widely recognised by some of the country’s leading blue-chip brands as independent evidence of competency, which instils confidence in the organisation’s ability to tackle even the largest or most difficult of projects.

Commenting on the SafeContractor success, UNTHA UK’s chairman Chris Oldfield said: “We have always prided ourselves on our commitment to engineering safe, efficient shredders, which achieve clients’ waste and recycling objectives whilst prioritising the wellbeing of the people responsible for commissioning, operating and maintaining the machinery.

“But self-praise can mean very little to prospective customers who need utmost reassurance that we can execute their project perfectly. This independent certification therefore reinforces our promise to working with maximum respect, compliance and consideration for the wellbeing of our own staff and anyone else we come into contact with on clients’ sites.”

The accreditation is the latest addition to a range of UNTHA UK certifications, including ISO9001 (quality management), ISO14001 (environmental excellence) and the OHSAS18001 standard (for occupational health and safety).
