Local school receives star treatment from award winning housebuilder

Five star housebuilder, David Wilson Homes has awarded a star in space to Rose Wood Academy to say thank you for their help in designing a duck house for its Grey Towers Village development.

Barratt Developments North East, which encompasses the Barratt and David Wilson Homes brands, was awarded a maximum 5 star rating in the HBF (Home Builders Federation) customer satisfaction survey in March 2017.

As a celebration of its five star rating for the eighth year running, the housebuilder is awarding five schools in the North East region with their own, exclusive star as recognition of their valuable contribution to the community.

Rose Wood Academy in Coulby Newham is now the proud owner of 1422012 - Pictor, a star visible to the naked eye from the UK, and astronomically located through right ascension 6h 6m 36.5s, declination 60 degrees 36’24.53“ and magnitude 10.85.

Joshua Margeri, a former pupil at Rose Wood Academy, was the winner of the design a duck house competition. The children were asked to design a shelter so that the ducks around the Grey Towers Village development would have a dedicated space to live and nest as usual.

Thanks to Joshua and his classmates the duck house, which has been dubbed ‘Duckingham Palace’, is now installed on Dixons Bank in the communal pond within the development in Nunthorpe.

Steven Ball, Sales Manager at Grey Towers Village, commented: “The duck house has been a fantastic addition to the development, making Rose Wood Academy an obvious star winner. The amount of work and effort that Joshua put into his design showed a great level of talent and it has greatly benefitted the local ducks in and around the Grey Towers Village area.”

Lisa Carney, Deputy Headteacher at Rose Wood Academy, said: “We’d like to thank the David Wilson Homes team for our recognition, it was a great surprise to receive a star from them.

The duck house competition was fantastic and gave the children a chance to learn all about the local wildlife whilst being creative at the same time. The staff loved getting the children involved, and Joshua was thrilled to see his house down at the Grey Towers Village development.“
