Car-maker Ford is offering you £2,000 to scrap your old car

The car-maker Ford is offering £2,000 discounts on new models for those drivers who scrap their old vehicles that are polluting the UK’s roads.

Any petrol or diesel car or van - from any manufacturer - registered before December 31, 2009, will be eligible for the scheme, which is running to the end of this year.

This comes shortly after ministers vowed to ban the sale of all diesel and petrol cars in Britain by 2040. The scheme is to be focused on drivers who need more support, like those on lower incomes or the possibility of living next to a clean air zone.

Speaking to Sky News, Andy Barratt, Ford of Britain’s chairman and managing director, commented: “Removing generations of the most polluting vehicles will have the most immediate positive effect on air quality, and this Ford scrappage scheme aims to do just that.”

This incentive is available on a variety of Ford models, and customers will typically receive £2,000 off cars for those worth up to £20k starting from around £12k.

Last month, the Government announced proposals to introduce a scrappage scheme, part of its plans to meet tight, legal European Union limits on harmful nitrogen dioxide pollution.

Ford has said that by combining both the scrappage of your car as well as other standard offers, customers could be receiving up to £4,000 off a car or £7,000 off a van.

This is unlike other schemes put into place by the likes of BMW and Mercedes, which only offer this for diesel cars.

Vauxhall ran a similar scheme in 2015 and 2016. The cars that can be traded in include those that applied before 2010.
