Innovative collaboration to help North East brain injury survivors
A FREE service offering help for North East people suffering from acquired brain injuries launched today (August 22).
North East charity Momentum, part of the Rehab Group, has introduced The Early Brain Injury Support Service for patients, their families and carers, to offer much-needed advice and guidance plus access to vital services and community support to aid rehabilitation and care.
Based on Skinnerburn Road in Newcastle, Momentum has created the service which will include benefits, legal and financial advice, alongside practical and emotional support.
Momentum’s North East regional manager, Gemma Armstrong, said: “There are hundreds of people suffering from acquired brain injuries throughout the region, and unfortunately many have had very limited access to help or funding for care.
“By using our existing networks and working with partners that specialise across lots of areas; social care, health, law, education and finance, users will benefit from a full-circle approach, meaning they can access the right help and resources when they need them.”
EBIS was designed with help from service providers, voluntary organisations, patients and families who have all welcomed the new service.
Gemma added: “Any acquired brain injury can have a devastating effect on someone’s life and often people don’t know what help is out there so services such as these are vital.
“We are delighted to be able to provide our support and expertise to launch this fantastic new service, helping people gain valuable information about what is available as well as helping to engage with the individuals and other professionals in the industry.
