Neglected Newcastle city centre ‘hidden gem’ comes to market
A rare slice of real estate is up for sale in Newcastle city centre, a stone’s throw away from Northumberland Street.
The 6,189 sq ft site on Vine Lane sits close to the Northumbria University campus and backs directly onto the City Hall and City Pool.
Various proposals were discussed during the mid-20th century for the plot, including using the site as an extension to the City Pool next door although none were ever implemented.
The site, presently unused, was bought in 2013 by leisure charity Fusion Lifestyle as part of its purchase of two other Newcastle landmarks, Newcastle City Hall and Newcastle City Pool and Turkish Baths.
A guide price isn’t available for the plot although prospective buyers are being invited to submit sealed bids for the site, according to property consultancy Sanderson Weatherall.
Speaking of the land, Sanderson Partner Kevin McGorie said: “This really is a hidden gem in the heart of Newcastle.
“It would be superb to see a buyer put this neglected city-centre site into productive use.
“It’s in a fantastic location and is close to the busiest shopping street in Newcastle, meaning it is great for footfall.”
