Brixton's Salon is closing...before reopening next month with a new bar and wine store

Brixton favourite Salon is to remain closed until September as it undergoes a comprehensive refit which will see a new design, new ground floor and a new wine shop opened next door.

Founder and head chef, Nicholas Balfe, has worked with architect HH+ and designer Finch Munro at Finch London to oversee the expansion and refurbishment at the restaurant which began life as a pop-up above a cheese shop in Brixton Market in 2012.

In time for its Autumn reopening, the eatery will boast a new downstairs bar with concertina windows that open out onto the market, with customers able to purchase home-made syrups and preserves as well as a new menu of bar snacks and sharing dishes.

Next Door will be the Salon Wine Store with a range of artisan wines which customers can purchase either to bring into the restaurant for a corkage fee or take home.

Balfe said: “I’m looking forward to reopening Salon with its beautiful new design and sharing it with our loyal customers, but it will also breathe new life into the restaurant, and renew the space for the next part of our journey - something we’ve all worked hard for over the past four years.”

Salon’s general manager, Mark Gurney added: “The addition of the wine store is something totally new for us and we’re really excited to announce wine tastings, dinners and collaborations later in the year – watch this space!”
