S Harrison sleeps on the streets with Simon

Leading development company S Harrison is the latest business to back a charitable initiative that supports the homeless and rough sleepers. The corporate ‘5 for 5’ partnership will see the property firm donate £500 each year, for five years, to Simon on the Streets. The Leeds based independent charity offers emotional and practical support on an outreach basis to rough sleepers or those at risk of rough sleeping. The donation coincides with the company starting work on a purpose built student accommodation scheme on Blenheim Walk in Leeds.
S Harrison’s Managing Director, Ann Scott says: “As a successful development business we believe it is vital that we are able to give something back to the communities that we work in. We take pride in forging strong relationships with local charities that typically don’t receive grants, and the 5 for 5 fundraising campaign is a great way for us to form a meaningful partnership with a charity that is doing vital work in Leeds and also further afield in Bradford and Huddersfield. “I am also going to be taking part in the charity’s annual rough sleeping fund-raising event on 28th September where more than 100 supporters will gather to spend the night out in the open at The Tilt Yard at The Royal Armouries. Everyone taking part will seek sponsorship and it will be a chance to gain a powerful insight into the challenges rough sleepers face.” Simon on the Streets was founded in 1999. Sue Oliver, Development Manager from the charity says: “The people we support are often those who are excluded from, or refuse the intervention of other services. These people can be perceived to struggle to achieve progress, and are therefore left unsupported. We carry out motivational work around accessing services, provide both long-term and intensive support, as well as operating a weekly soup run. “Simon on the Streets is 100% independently funded, so corporate partnerships like the one S Harrison is getting involved with are essential to the sustainability of our work and we are delighted that Ann is taking part in our rough-sleeping event which will hopefully raise more than £20,000.” .
