Construction completed on £3.5m Barnard Castle Quad Station

Work to transform Barnard Castle fire station into a new quad station, housing local fire, police, mountain rescue and ambulance service at the same site, has taken a significant step forward.

Contractor Robertson North East England has completed construction work on the £3.5m project, which once fully complete will stand as the UK’s first emergency services station of its kind.

The unique station will now be home to the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, Barnard Castle Police, the North East Ambulance Service and the Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team.

Robertson, established in 1966, is one of the largest independently owned construction, infrastructure and support services companies in the UK.

During construction, the firm used an advanced transfer slab solution that supports the ground beams and avoids pressure being surcharged on the ground. The building itself is composed of the main, three storey office building, masonry stores and a training building.
