Local schools score Martin-Brooks an A for effort
Sheffield-based roofing specialist, Martin-Brooks, is top of the class when it comes to readying the region’s schools for the new academic year.
The firm is not only tackling a number of roof repairs, but also taking on the complete refurbishment of two classrooms at St Mary’s Catholic High School in Chesterfield.
Martin-Brooks is removing the old roof covering and defective glazing at St Mary’s, before installing a new steel and timber structure, new tiles and Velux windows. It is then moving onto the inside, replacing everything from the plasterboard walls and ceilings, to the plumbing, electrics and carpets.
John Elmore, Martin-Brooks’ managing director, said: “We have a very tight timescale in which to significantly overhaul St Mary’s, but as principal contractor, we are committed to delivering the best possible results. Thanks to our excellent links with other trades, we have up to eight men on site at any one time, who are all working hard to ensure the classrooms provide a first-class learning environment for pupils to enjoy.”
The firm is also managing a £90,000 reroof at Hillsborough Primary School in Sheffield, which involves the full replacement of Welsh slate roofs, recoating an area of flat roof and the redecoration of timbers.
Other projects include various repairs at Carfield Primary in Meersbrook, Sheffield and the re-covering of pitched and flat areas of roof at Mount St Mary’s College in Spinkhill, Derbyshire.
