S Harrison encourages kids to get on their bike
Children attending a summer holiday club at Snappy – the Special Needs Activities and Play Provision for York – are enjoying riding a selection of new bikes and scooters that have been provided by local development company S Harrison. The holiday club, which is for children aged between five and 19 with varying disabilities, takes place during the summer months and also at Easter. Participants enjoy a wide range of fun activities and trips out, and everyone at the club can use the on-site sensory and computer rooms, take part in arts and crafts, as well as playing musical instruments. Ann Scott, managing director at S Harrison, says: “We started working with Snappy back in 2015 when we asked the children to take part in a competition to design our Christmas advent calendar and we also funded their bowling party. Last year we provided funds to help create a new wheelchair accessible musical sensory garden and the bikes and scooters are just another way in which we can support the fantastic work that Snappy does.” Anne Stamp, Service Manager at Snappy says: “S Harrison has been helping us on an ongoing basis for two years now, and their contributions have made a real difference to the lives of our children, who come to us to have fun in a safe environment where they can feel valued and happy. We rely totally on donations, and have some very talented volunteers who make sure everyone really enjoys all of the activities on offer. The children absolutely love the bikes and scooters – they have been a big hit!” Snappy provides social and recreational opportunities for children and young people with special needs in the York area, who are aged between 5 and 25. Senior Snappy is a club for young people aged 15 to 25 who take part in social nights, activities and workshops that focus on key day to day life skills. In total, Snappy works with almost 300 children, young people and young adults in the York area. For further information about Snappy and its work visit www.snappyyork.co.uk
