Life’s a beach … let’s clean it!
The weekend of Friday 15 September - Sunday 17 September is the National Marine Conservation Society’s Annual British Beach Clean and, always ones for getting involved, Northumberland Wildlife Trust will be hosting a litter pick on a 100 metre stretch of Cresswell Beach on Friday 15 September between 2.30pm - 4.30pm.
The items collected will be weighed and recorded with the survey results being sent off to the Marine Conservation Society for its report on the state of the UK’s beaches.
Last year, over 25 kgs of rubbish was collected from Cresswell Beach in just two hours, with items including a pair of jeans, light bulbs, paint brushes, razors and a car tyre littering the Northumberland beauty spot.
The UK has some of the most beautiful coastline you could hope to find but it is being ruined by a rising tide of litter that is increasing year on year.
So, if being on a beach is your idea of a great way to spend a couple of hours on a Friday afternoon, then meet Aurelie Bohan, Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s Living Seas Officer at the car park opposite the Drift Café in Cresswell Village, just before 2.30pm and give her a helping hand.
There’s no need to book - just turn up! Gloves, bags and litter picking devices will be provided.
