SES secures £3m Akzo Nobel work as part of new cryogenic facility in Gateshead

SES Engineering Services (SES), the Wates owned engineering firm, has secured a multi-million pound contract to provide mechanical and electrical (M&E) installations at AkzoNobel’s new cryogenic facility in Gateshead.

The work will see SES work with the Dutch multinational on their new £10.7m cryogenic facility warehouse and protective coatings applications and testing laboratory as part of a contract worth £3m to the firm.

The engineering business will also work on the refurbishment of the existing Expert Capability Group (ECG) building to create new wet paint laboratories and office space for up to 90 people, working closely with construction, infrastructure and support services company, Robertson CE Ltd.

Steve Joyce, SES’ Business Director North, said: “This is a significant project for the region and one which has major implications for the coatings industry, so we are delighted to have been appointed.

“Our approach when undertaking a project of this type has synergy with the client’s process-driven approach to manufacturing.

“I believe this, coupled with our many years of working with major contractors such as Robertson CE will ensure we successfully deliver the sophisticated building services necessary to meet the needs of the client particularly in relation to the facility’s R&D function.”

The state-of-the-art facility is due to be completed in mid-2018.
