Global technology business to establish scientific base at Sci-Tech Daresbury

Global tech business Hitachi High-Technologies (Europe) is bringing its UK scientific base to Sci-Tech Daresbury.

The firm, part of Japan-headquartered Hitachi Group, is taking lab space at the campus’ newest scheme, Techspace One.

Hitachi High-Technologies will use 2,500 sq ft at the development to house its latest electron microscopes and scanning probe microscopes.

The lab will focus on collaborating with both academia and industry in the UK and Europe.

Mike Dixon, the company’s nanotechnology section manager, said: “Our aim for the new laboratory is to be a demonstration facility for our latest instrumentation as well as a collaboration hub where we can undertake a wide range of activities including fundamental research and method development.

“What really appealed about Techspace One was its strong impact and flexibility, allowing us to design the space in the way that works for us best.”

He added: “The move also means that we will be adding new staff to strengthen the company’s applications and technical team, and increasing our commitment to microscopy in the UK.”

Sci-Tech Daresbury represents a private-public joint venture between the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), Halton Borough Council and developer Langtree.

The Hitachi High-Tech Group handles products ranging from scientific instruments and systems to advanced materials, electronic devices and industrial machinery.
