Hull construction firm completes revamp of Bransholme Fire Station
Hobson & Porter, the Hull-based construction firm, has completed the transformation of Bransholme Fire Station.
The upgraded facility includes a new boiler room, gymnasium, welfare pods, appliance bay, dormitories and shower facilities, and a refurbished kitchen area.
Hobson & Porter began working on the refurbishment in late 2016 when its Minor Works division began the process upgrading Bransholme Fire Station internal facilities.
Originally built in 1976, the station is currently occupied by 24 full-time personnel.
The refurbishment is the third scheme Hobson & Porter has undertaken for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service in the last two years.
The firm previously transformed Immingham West Fire Station in North Lincolnshire into a purpose-built training facility, and delivered a new station at Clough Road in North Hull.
Paul McKenzie, project manager for Hobson & Porter, said: “Because of the essential services the fire station provides, it was imperative that the building was kept operational at all times during the project.
“This required the project to be delivered in a series of phased works, and our team had to take into account considerations such as access to the site, segregation of work areas and minimising noise and dust.
“We received extremely positive feedback from Humberside Fire & Rescue Service for our approach to the project, and our care for the station and surrounding public areas was praised in an audit from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), who awarded the team high scores for ‘Appearance’ and ‘Respect for the Community’.
“We are one of only 60 companies in the UK with ‘Partner’ membership of the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), and this is reflected in our approach to working on this upgrade.”
Dave Blades, business development director for Hobson & Porter, commented: “We have enjoyed a good relationship with Humberside Fire and Rescue Service for a number of years and this scheme is another success we have delivered for the service in our region.
“The refurbished Bransholme site contains modern facilities that will give fire-staff an improved environment to work in. Fire stations can be demanding environments so it was important that we ensured the amenities our team provided were first class, giving the fire staff the resources they need to do their work effectively.”
