Ben smashes through significant milestone ahead of International Programmer's Day

Ahead of International Programmer’s Day on 13 September, a best-selling instructor, game developer and online entrepreneur is celebrating having taught a quarter of a million students how to code.

Ben Tristem is offering what he is calling “a fresh approach to learning” as students flock to online courses, and with tuition fees dominating the headlines and a new academic year beginning, many students are exploring the brave new world of online learning.

Ben says:

“I’m in a better position than ever to be celebrating International Programmer’s Day this year, having smashed through a significant milestone.

“Since I started offering online programming courses, I’ve taught quarter of a million students to code - or, on average, one every 3 minutes.”

Ben started working for himself at the age of 15, and never looked back. He explored careers as varied as being a commercial pilot, stunt-man, rock climbing instructor, and more. None of these provided a continued challenge, and stable income in the same way technology does.

After building and selling a home computer support business, Ben became an angel investor and business mentor in Cambridge. He offers his online programmers courses via online learning marketplace Udemy.

Ben says:

“Feedback from our students tells us that our courses are far more accessible than many colleges or university programs. Those learning with us can take their courses anywhere, and according to Udemy, we currently have students in 199 countries.

“With costs to studying spiralling, we offer a real benefit for wannabe programmers in that we offer low cost courses utilising the very latest in free software packages.

“As we approach International Programmer’s Day, it’s great to be able to get such a milestone under my belt. Here’s to half a million!”
