Caring Dawn celebrates 28 years at Czajka Care Group

A care worker from Eccleshill, Bradford is celebrating 28 years working for family-run Czajka Care Group.

Dawn Pearson, who started working as a care assistant at Czajka’s Staveley Birkleas residential nursing home in Nab Wood in 1989, was attracted to the role as the home looks after younger people with a wide range of physical and mental disabilities.

Dawn says: “I saw it as a challenge and loved the job from day one. In those days you often did several roles within a home and I started to help out in the kitchens too as I love cooking so much. Within no time at all I was running the kitchen, which could be stressful at times, but it was also very rewarding, as meals are such an important part of the lives of everyone at the home.”

In 1994 Dawn moved across to Czajka’s Brookfield Care Home as the deputy manager, which is also in the Nab Wood area of Shipley, before returning to Staveley Birkleas. “I really liked it at Brookfield, but they desperately needed a chef at Staveley, so I went back!”

During her 28 years at Czajka, Dawn also worked as a deputy manager within the community care division for three years, before moving across to the head office in 2000. Dawn adds: “I remember my first day in the office was Valentine’s Day, and we were allowed to go home at lunch time as a special treat! I currently work as the purchase ledger controller now processing all the company invoices, helping with payroll and assisting when needed with recruitment and human resources issues, so it’s a really busy role with plenty to do.

“As Czajka is family owned and run, it’s not a faceless organisation. It values loyalty and has given me several fantastic opportunities to develop over the years. At many care groups you are just a number, but at Czajka it’s a great atmosphere where people help each other out and enjoy being a part of such a big happy family.

“Nowadays people often move from care company to care company, or agency to agency, but after 28 years with Czajka I can confidently say I don’t want to leave. You meet so many different people from all walks of life here, but the one thing they all have in common is that they all really care about what they do and the people they look after.” Konrad Czajka, Managing Director of Czajka Care Group says: “Dawn is a real stalwart of our business and she brings a real enthusiasm and determination to everything she does. Over the last 28 years she has worked in many parts of our business, and always given one hundred percent to every role and we look forward to working with her for many more years to come.”
