McDonald’s agrees YEI partnership to fill 40 Cleveland jobs

Coast & Country’s New Directions programme, which is part of the Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) funded by the European Social Fund, is working in partnership with fast food giant McDonald’s to offer employment opportunities for jobless people in Cleveland.

McDonalds has 40 vacancies at its new outlet in Skelton, due to open in October, and has teamed up with Coast & Country to help fill the vacancies.

The New Directions team is working in collaboration with Job Centre Plus to ensure that local people can access the jobs, which are full-time, fully-flexible, open to all ages and include roles for crew members and customer care assistants.

Johanna Watts, YEI Employer Engagement Officer at Coast & Country, said: “We’re delighted to have this opportunity to work with McDonalds to give 40 people the opportunity to work for one of the country’s best-known names, which was voted number six of The Sunday Times Best Big Companies to work for.

“McDonalds was very impressed by the trainees and loved the concept behind New Directions and our Youth Employment Initiative. They were very interested in the social value of what we do and pledged to work with us to fill the positions at the new Skelton restaurant.

“It’s crucial to invest in creating opportunities for young people as they are so vitally important to the future development of the region’s economy and to work with McDonalds is very rewarding for the New Directions team. I am sure there will be huge interest in these vacancies.”

Leanne Norman, Business Manager of McDonald’s, added: “We are looking forward to working in partnership with Johanna Watts from Coast & Country’s New Directions programme and Job Centre Plus.

“We were so impressed with the trainees from the talent afternoon tea event and loved the whole concept behind the initiative programme.

“We have 40+ new job vacancies available currently for our new Skelton restaurant, which we are excited to announce that we plan to open on October 18th.

“It is fantastic that we can support the local community and provide job opportunities for the local unemployed people.”
