Plans approved for second phase of residential development in Kirkstall
Planning permission has been granted for a second phase of development at an apartments complex on Commercial Road in Leeds.
Brewster Bye Architects secured the planning for the eight additional apartments within a new rooftop extension at the Kirkstall Gate scheme.
Work on the first phase of 36 apartments is currently on site, and work on the second phase will start later this year.
Chris Austin, managing director at Brewster Bye Architects, commented: “The first phase of this striking development is well underway, and the new rooftop extension will create eight stunning new one and two bedroom apartments, all with private terraces, that will enjoy expansive views across the Aire Valley.”
Kirkstall Gate benefits from more than 31 car parking spaces. The development is at the centre of the suburb of Kirkstall, with cafes and restaurants, a wide range of shops and established retail parks, a cinema, as well as several health and fitness facilities.
The building is owned by Gold & Amber, the company behind the North Crescent development, which saw 46 new two bedroom apartments delivered in Leeds City Centre.
Chris added: “Converting this tired and neglected 1960’s former halls of residence, which is situated at a key gateway site in a prominent elevated position above one of Leeds’ key arterial routes into the city centre, is vital to ensuring it has a sustainable and attractive new use for many years to come.
“With a contemporary façade, the design includes projecting cladding and flashes of colour in the window reveals and the additional roof terrace will give the building a fantastic fresh appearance.”
PJ Finn from Gold & Amber said: “We can’t wait to start work on the new roof extension. In total we will be creating 44 smart new highly specified homes in an area with plenty of amenities and a fantastic community.
“The apartments are just a short drive or walk from the City Centre, and there are regular bus and rail services, making the development very desirable.”
