Speedy goes back to Wigan roots for 40th birthday celebration
A leading tools, equipment and plant hire company has celebrated its 40th anniversary in business at its original Wigan depot.
What began as a small shop in Wigan has now grown into a multimillion pound national business. Speedy first opened its doors in 1977 on Wallgate and has since grown to become one of the UK’s largest hire providers with a network of over 200 depots across the UK and Ireland.
To mark the milestone, Speedy held a celebration event on Tuesday 12th September with the Mayor and Mayoress of Wigan in attendance along with Speedy’s Chief Executive Russell Down, who unveiled a commemorative plaque.
Players from the Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic also came along signing autographs and pictures for customers.
Billy Bowie, Managing Director for the North at Speedy said: “Wigan is where it all began for us. We’re proud of our roots and were keen to mark this key milestone in the town to highlight the company’s links to it, and how important it was to our success.
“We had a great day celebrating the past 40 years and look forward to many successful years ahead for the company.”
